RECYCLING WASTE WATER

WHAT IS RECYCLING WATER?

I know you must be thinking how can you reuse waste water, that’s disgusting. You could be right, but first let’s find out the facts. All water is recycled and reused as a part of natural water processes such as the hydrologic cycle. Water recycling is also known as water reuse or water reclamation. Recycling waste water can extend water supplies, improve the quality of your water, reduce discharge and disposal cost of waste water, and save energy.

Water recycling reclaims water from a variety of sources then purifies it and reuses it for beneficial purposes such as agriculture and irrigation, portable water supplies, groundwater replenishment, industrial processes, and environmental restoration. Treated and recycled waste water provides a cost-efficient supply that decreases the demands and stress on fresh water resources.

THE RECYCLING PROCESS

Water recycling is the process of taking waste water & sewage and treating it so that it can be reused. For drinkable use, the recycled water has to be treated a sufficiently high standard that is suitable for human consumption. Waste water goes through micro filters, the water undergoes a reverse osmosis process, which is a water purification process that uses a partially permeable membrane to separate ions, unwanted molecules and larger particles from water.

As an addition precaution the water undergoes oxidation and disinfection, using hydrogen peroxide and very strong ultraviolet light. It can then be stored in a water storage and used for daily necessities. Before it is appropriate for human consumption, the blended recycled and regular water also undergoes the normal drinking water treatment.
