Untreated water is drinking water that has not been chemically treated, filtered, or boiled to eliminate infectious bacteria, viruses, and parasites. These organisms can cause illness. Water is a natural resource; we use it for our daily necessities. Whether we use it for consumption, washing our hands, bathing, cooking, cleaning or for agricultural purposes, we all require water to survive. The condition of the water we use is crucial to our health, especially for young infants who find it more difficult to battle germs and diseases due to their weak immune systems. Untreated water carries bacteria and viruses which can lead to serious water- related sicknesses such as cholera, dengue, diarrhea, hepatitis, malaria, malnutrition, onchocerciasis, scabies. These infections can be spread through contaminated drinking water. Untreated water can be very toxic to humans and the environment.
